Description of the Committee:

We focus on policies and procedures that affect the validity of elections, primarily in New York State. These issues may include the types of voting machines used, the need for verifiable paper ballots, recount and audit procedures, and chain-of-custody policies.

Goals:

• Ensuring the use of hand-marked, verifiable paper ballots by:
  • Banning “Hybrid” voting machines that have the potential to print over ballots after they are cast by the voter.
  • Banning voting machines that use touch screens.
• Facilitating the availability of 100% hand recounts of ballots in close elections.
• Making images of scanned ballots subject to FOIL requests, enabling public transparency.
