CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM

The Criminal Justice committee’s focus in 2025 will be to work for the long-delayed passage of two very modest parole-reform bills. Together these bills will begin to undo the long legacy of a racist system of mass incarceration even in Democrat-controlled NY state (with some of the worst outcomes in the Bronx and Westchester), steps essential for building just and safe communities.
Specifically, NYCD16/15 members are urged to:

  • Learn about the billsĀ here.
  • Let Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins know that passage of these bills matters to you, and that they are essential for a just and safe society (there are enough co-sponsors and committed votes for both bills, in both houses, for them to pass if they are brought to the floor for a vote, which is something that is in her power).
