Benefits: Trump Administration Wants To Change Who Qualifies
According to the Congressional Budget Office, only 4.2% of households receiving SNAP in 2016 made more than the income cap of 130% of the federal poverty line. And being over that poverty line doesn’t necessarily indicate that a family is back on its feet. The 2019 poverty line is $25,750 per year for a family of four. Calculate 130% of that and you only get an annual income of $33,475. Now imagine that instead of being phased out of your government benefits, they got cut off completely, in one fell swoop.
