Act Now!

We don’t have to tell you anything about this horrendous, possibly catastrophic tax scam, except that the vote is imminent. It was voted out of committee yesterday, and there may be a procedural vote as early as today that would pave the way for the real floor vote.

Trump met with several wavering senators yesterday and, speaking as usual from both sides of his mouth, made vague contradictory promises to “support” or “consider” various fixes around the edges to bring the senators to “yes.” The issue is still in doubt, but Republican opposition is either diminished or gone underground. We may yet be able to help some of them grow a spine….

Here is a list of senators who might possibly oppose the bill when it comes to that ultimate vote. I have listed their concerns under their names.
James Lankford [OK] 202-224-5754,   405-231-4941,   Fax: 202-228-1015,   @SenatorLankford
Bob Corker [TN] 202-224-3344,   901-683-1910,   Fax: 202-228-0566,   @SenBobCorker
Jerry Moran [KS] 202-224-6521, 316-269-9257, Fax: 202-228-6966, @JerryMoran
Concerned about deficit growth that would be caused by this bill. They’ll support tax bill if there is a “trigger” that would activate “backstop measures” (reducing some of the tax cuts) to avoid a balooning deficit if the predicted growth doesn’t materialize. But in a Tuesday meeting, Trump argued that a backstop would cause business uncertainty and would limit growth. Can’t have it both ways.

Jeff Flake [AZ] 202-224-4521,   602-840-1891,   Fax: 202-228-0515,   @JeffFlake
Concerned about deficit growth resulting from this bill. Still hasn’t committed.

Ron Johnson [WI] 202-224-5323,   414-276-7282,   Fax: 202-228-6965,   @SenRonJohnson
Wants more for pass-through businesses versus large corporations. Who’s going to pay for that?

 Lisa Murkowski [AK] 202-224-6665,   907-271-3735,   Fax: 202-224-5301,   @lisamurkowski
Appears to be selling out her constituents for oil money. Remind her about the devastation that ACA repeal would bring.

Susan Collins [ME] 202-224-2523,   207-622-8414,   Fax: 202-224-2693,   @SenatorCollins
Concerned about loss of health insurance for many. Seems mollified by Trump’s “commitment” to “consider” the Alexander/Murray health care stabilization plan. Who believes a promise from Trump??

John McCain [AZ] 202-224-2235,   602-952-2410,   Fax: 202-228-2862,   @SenJohnMcCain
Hasn’t said much. Has he grown a conscience? Help him develop a stronger one!
